Guys, you must be pretty confused about the RAMs like DDR2, DDR3, DDR4
or other varieties of RAMs used in your smartphones, laptops etc.Now we
are going to discuss about the different generations of DDR2, DDR3, DDR4
and other details. If we go to analyze every aspect of above mentioned
stuffs, then it will be very complicated and you may not be able to understand
it. So let's begin with some simple stuffs.
You must be thinking among all the types of RAMs, WHICH IS BETTER??
You must know that DDR4 is better than DDR3, DDR3 is better than DDR2,and
DDR2 is better than DDR1. Now-a-days,if you check the RAMs,you will mostly
find DDR3 in all common computers or laptops. DDR2 are almost out of sight.
If you want to make your PC a highly advanced one, then you should go for
DDR4. In smartphones,you will also find DDR3 RAMs,but these are LPDDR3s.
LP stand for'Low Powered'.Obviously a phone runs on a battery only,so a low
power consuming RAM is preferred. In some of the highly advanced smartphones
you can find DDR4 RAMs.Every time a generation of an electric chip is upgraded,
the size of the transistors keeps on getting small. When it is small,it attains a faster
speed and consumes less power. The same concept is also applicable for RAMs.
For example,DDR2 consumes more power than DDR3,but DDR3 is smaller in size.
When you go for computers, you will find out that the upper limit of DDR3 is the
Lower limit of DDR4, which means the normal configuration for DDR4 RAM is much
better than the best possible configuration of DDR3.Also by the help of tech. used
in DDR4,we can make upto 256 GB or 512 GB of data in one stick(Though it’s not
possible yet). If now you buy a normal phone, then you will find DDR3 RAM, but if you
go for a highly-advanced Smartphone, then you will get a DDR4 RAM.
That was all about DDR3 and DDR4, but there are certain parameters in between DDR3
and DDR4.Some have DUAL CHANNEL MEMORY.some have SINGLE CHANNEL MEMORY.
Some have clock-speed memory like 833 MHz or 1333 MHz.To some extents it works like
the clock-speed of processor .So, the faster your RAM is, the better. But in Smartphone,
you don’t have the option to change the RAM, though you can do it with your computer.
If your PC has DDR3 RAM, then you can upgrade it. IF your RAM is DDR3 with 833 MHz,
Then you can upgrade it to the higher extent of DDR3, such as 1600 MHz or 2133 MHz,
Then your RAM will remain the same DDR3, but the speed will be much faster.
Guys, you must have heard this term before ‘DUAL CHANNEL’. Let’s say, you have a 8 GB
RAM. Now, it may be a single stick 8 GB or a dual stick of 4 GBs. In that case, the dual stick
Is better. Why?? It’s because the main function of RAM is to transfer the data as fast as
Possible and dual stick is better at this than single stick(Suppose you have a water tank of
a thousand liters and it has only one point for water to go out, but if you make another
such point, the tank will be empty in half of the initial time. The same concept is used in
DUAL CHANNEL systems). So if you have DDR3 or DDR4 RAMs, then you can make it even
Faster by making a DUAL CHANNEL system.
